Gourd Birdhouse - with multicolor finish (various stripes of primary colors outlined in black, hand painted with acrylic paint). You will get one of the gourds pictured or something similar, I can't guarantee a specific one.
We grow pumpkins and gourds here on our small farm and last year we grew Birdhouse Gourds on a tunnel structure in our garden.
The gourds are dried over winter and become super lightweight. We scrub off the outside skin and mold, under water and then give them a light sanding.
The hole for the house will vary and is either 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" depending on the size of the gourd. The finish on this gourd is first painted in the various color stripes and black lines, then over painted in black paint that is mostly rubbed off before it drys, the final coat is a Marine Grade varnish in 2 coats, or a Matte Finish Spray to protect the gourd and paint job. There are a couple drain holes drilled into the bottom for drainage if water got in. We tie a length of leather cording through a hole at the top to hand the house from (but we recommend adding a zip tie or wire for extra security due to increasing wind speeds around the country).
We only have a small number available this year and some will also be available at our farm stand this summer, along with some other items we are making out of the gourds. Our farm is located in North Berwick, Maine and has a self service farm stand from June through October. Please look up our farm info on our facebook page for Beech Ridge Farm.
