Description
Scrappy Patchwork Quilt in Greens
Small 3" squares of mixed cotton materials, some older materials, some new, and some I printed myself mixed in. This was the 3rd quilt I finished and am still learning the process and proper sewing techniques and how to use our long arm sewing machine. There are many mistakes and rough spots but they only add to the character and rustic look and feel of the quilt. We prewash each quilt to ensure color fastness of the fabrics and durability of the piece.
I started playing around with quilting when I was a kid and first learning to use my mom's sewing machine. I've always been drawn to Patchwork style quilts, possibly because it was the style I remember my grandmothers both making and having in their houses growing up. One of my grandmothers gave me some of her quilting fabric scraps she had saved just before she passed, hoping someday I might be able to use them. I'm self taught with sewing and have always just tried to figure it out on my own. I started making quilts again as an adult around 2007 when I started my own business, & made them for fun mostly and gave them away as gifts. In early 2020 I started making face masks from Bandanas when the pandemic started and I saved all of my scraps as I was making them with the hope of making a few bandana quilts. Those bandana quilts are still being worked on, and in the meantime I have jumped into using all different kinds and colors of fabrics and am in the process of making a whole series of quilts in both the patchwork style and other designs. I screen print some of my own fabrics for my Balsam fir pillows which I'm incorporating into the quilts as well which is something I'm hoping to do more of moving forward.
